Today,26 November 2012,the United Nations Conference onTrade and Development(UNCTAD) launched online the 2012 Least Developed Countries Report. This is the only annual report in the United Nations system that exclusively addresses issues related to the 48 least developed countries (LDCs).
This year’s Report, which is subtitled Harnessing Remittances and Diaspora Knowledge to Build Productive Capacities, examines the potential role of migrants, or the diaspora, from LDCs as sources of development finance and channels of knowledge transfer to home countries. In many other developing countries, diasporas also serve as facilitators of trade and market access opportunities in the host countries. The Report assesses whether such opportunities are also open to LDCs that have nationals living and working abroadAttached please find a press release and some background info on the report for your use on your esteemed media channels.
